Liam Gallagher Modern Caesar Haircut from Oasis with Russell Mayes

DESCRIPTION

The modern Caesar haircut takes the clean, compact shape of the classic Caesar cut and gives it more freedom through texture, length, and styling. In this tutorial, we create an Oasis-inspired Caesar haircut using scissor-over-comb and the Feather Styling Razor to demonstrate how a traditional shape can evolve into a more modern style.

The Caesar has a history that stretches across centuries, from the look associated with Julius Caesar to the Caesar haircut of the ’90s. A major shift in the style came when Oasis debuted their version. What had been a fairly rigid, classic haircut became looser and more adaptable, helping open the door to the many modern Caesar variations seen today.

To create this modern Caesar, scissor-over-comb is used first to build the underneath shape, keep the sides clean, and establish the signature sideburn length using Jatai Tokyo Scissors. The Feather Styling Razor is then used to blend the top lengths into the sides and back while cutting the layering on top. The goal is to keep the hair close to the head shape, with a short, textured top and compact overall finish.

One of the interesting elements of a Caesar haircut is the relationship between the top and sides. Classic men’s haircuts often maintain more length on top with short sides, while this Caesar mixes up that approach. The forward direction of the hair and Caesar fringe help reinforce the recognizable shape.

Once you understand the foundation, the Caesar cut can be modified through the fringe, texture, length, sides, and finish. Modern variations can include a short modern Caesar haircut, a longer Caesar haircut, a Caesar cut fade, faded sides, or a more textured top.

The basic shape can also be adapted to different hair types, whether working with straight or curly hair. The haircut can work for thinning hair or men with a receding hairline as the hair is pushed forward. It can work with various face shapes as well. For styling it needs a simple blow dry forward and possibly a little clay for texture.

This is no buzz cut or a short caesar. Nor is it a mid fade caesar. It's a shape with attitude and style with longer hair for a more modern shape. It may require regular trims to keep up, but it can also be a maintenance style for men trying to grow out their hair. Study the classic shape and technique first. Then use those fundamentals to create a modern Caesar haircut that fits your cutting style and the attitude of your client.
