Choosing the Right Cartridge Shaving Blade for You

Choosing the Right Cartridge Shaving Blade for You

by JATAI, 09 Aug 2021
If you shave with a cartridge shaving razor, you're probably used to using just one type of cartridge blade that works in your handle because all of the big shaving razor brands generally create handles that use one specific blade. But what if you could choose different cartridge blades for the same handle? Feather Safety Razor Co. based out of Japan has developed a cartridge shaving razor that can use three different types of cartridge blades. An ingenious idea, Feather developed a line of cartridge razors and blades called 'F-System.' There are two razor handles and three different cartridge razor blades in the F-System. Each blade can be used in either of the handles. Before going any further, it's important to note that Feather is no newbie to shaving razors. They have been developing razors and blades for decades. And while their main shaving blades are double edge blades (aka safety blades) and straight razor blades, cartridge razor blades are not far off from their expertise. Over the years, Feather blades have developed a reputation of being the sharpest blades around as well as being high quality and having unique innovative tools. Their cartridge razor blades are no exception. The two F-System razor handles are the F3 Razor and the Butler Razor. Both of them can use the F3, MR3 Neo and FII Neo blades. Let's discuss each of these blades in more detail so you can see which blade might be right for you. F3 Blade The F3 Blade is a triple blade cartridge that is meant for reducing irritation and giving a comfortable shave. It has some really unique features in order to achieve this. First off, it features a wavy guard along each blade which reduces pressure on the skin to give a more comfortable shave. Secondly, each blade has independent suspension to glide along the surface of the skin. And lastly, the blades have an SiC ceramic coating that helps reduce irritation and razor burn. The coating also gives increased durability. The F3 Blades are perfect for anyone who struggles with irritation, razor burn or razor bumps. The F3 Blades come in a 4 or 8 pk. FII Neo Blade The FII Neo blade is the most economical of the three. While it is the most affordable, it doesn't mean it skimps on function. This cartridge has two thin, sharp blades and a one push cleaning feature. While it may be simpler in terms of features, it still gives a great shave for less. If you're less worried about irritation and more concerned about costs, the FII Neo Blades are for you. The FII Neo blades come in a pack of 10 blades. MR3 Neo Blade This triple blade cartridge will give the closest shave. It features a semi-circular guard and metal roller for a safe and comfortable shave. While it is less forgiving than the F3 Blade, it still provides a comfortable shave. However, in order to give a closer shave it may not be as good at reducing irritation like the F3 Blades. The MR3 is the most aggressive of the three blades and comes in a pack of 9 blades. If you're looking to get the closest shave, the MR3 Blade is for you. You might be asking, does the number of blades per cartridge matter? More blades doesn't mean a better shave. You just need two to three high quality sharp blades in a cartridge to get a close shave. With quality blades, you will also need less passes. It's a win-win situation. When you start encountering blades with five or even six blades, these could lead to more irritation because there are more passes to the skin so just be aware of this when deciding what the right cartridge handle and blade is for you. Whether you are leaning toward the F3, FII Neo or MR3 Neo blades, the best part is that you don't really have to choose! With the F-System razor handles you can use any of the cartridge shaving blades. Use one or use all three! It's all up to you. That's the beauty of F-System razors and blades. You are able to customize and tailor your shaves based on what works best for you.   Product, Cartridge Razors
Setting it Straight: Not ALL Razors are Feather Razors

Setting it Straight: Not ALL Razors are Feather Razors

by JATAI, 26 Apr 2023
If you scour the internet and even shopping sites for a haircutting razor and sometimes straight razors, you might see them referred to as a 'Feather Razor' but let's set the record straight. Not all haircutting and straight razors are 'Feather Razors.' It seems that over time people have come to associate a 'Feather Razor' as a basic term for a haircutting razor or sometimes a straight razor. Let's look at this deeper so that you are not confused or mistaken on what you're actually purchasing. If you think of tissue you might generically call it Kleenex. Or if you think of a bandage, you might call it a Band-Aid. What we forget is that Kleenex and Band-Aid are actually brands and not generic terms for the product. After all, there are many brands of tissue out there such as Puffs, Cushelle, Presto! and more. But if you call it Kleenex you're actually referring to a brand and not a type of product. It just happens to be that Kleenex has become the most popular and most well-known brand for tissue in the world. It's a registered trademark name that has become so popular people say 'tissue' and 'Kleenex' interchangeably like they are same thing. Same with bandages. There are many bandage brands out there. Nexcare, Welly and Curad are just a few. And many drug stores have their own brand of bandages like Rite-Aid, CVS and Walgreens as well. Band-Aid, however, is the most popular and well-known bandage brand so 'Band-Aid' is often associated with the word 'bandage' and used interchangeably. So now that you understand this concept we can apply it to a Feather Razor. 'Feather' is a brand name. It is not a generic term for all haircutting razors or straight razors. However, the Feather Styling Razor was the FIRST guarded haircutting razor on the market and has become the most popular one in the world. And since it is the first one, it is also the one that has been around the longest. So people have come to associate a 'Feather Razor' as a haircutting razor. If you see a razor labeled as 'Feather' ask yourself if you are looking at an actual Feather branded razor or an off-brand razor but using Feather in the name. Being able to decipher between the two might not seem critical but it is important if you want the Feather quality. Feather products are made in Japan and have a reputation for high quality products where the blades are reliable, dependable and consistently sharp. Other hair brands have created their own, but they are not Feather. We cannot attest to their quality, function or usability. The misuse of 'Feather Razor' is recognizable on shopping sites where sellers might call their razor a Feather Razor when it's actually a different haircutting razor. Since Feather is a registered trademark name, they can get into big legal trouble for using a brand name in the name of their razor. But the misuse has been noticed in social media as well. On sites like TikTok and Instagram where people talk about their favorite products, influencers can unknowingly misspeak when talking about products and call them the wrong name. This is detrimental to the brand as their viewers and followers may take what the influencer says as truth. So how do we navigate this situation? It starts here. First, understand what's happening and where the problem lies. Then, make sure that you yourself don't call all haircutting or straight razors a 'Feather' razor unless it really is. And thirdly, inform others nicely if they have misspoken. You might think this whole situation is good for Feather because it's getting the brand name more noticed. However, while there is some truth to this, it also creates confusion and misrepresentation and could lead to someone purchasing a razor they thought was a Feather Razor when it's not. So there you have it...a deep explanation to set the record straight. Not all haircutting and straight razors are Feather razors. If you already knew this, then great! But if you didn't hopefully it gave some clarity. If you're interested in a real Feather Razor, you can check them out here.   Product, Haircutting Razors, Artist Club Razors, Brand Building
Skincare for Men: How to Have the Best Skin for Shaving

Skincare for Men: How to Have the Best Skin for Shaving

by JATAI, 05 Jul 2023
When it comes to skincare, the beauty industry has traditionally focused on women. However, in recent years, there has been a growing awareness among men that taking care of their skin is just as important. Skincare isn't about being vain or feminine - it's about looking after your body and your health. Skincare Tips for Better Shaving Results Why is skincare for men important? By taking care of your skin, you can slow down the process of aging, increase the health of the skin and even get rid of imperfections. Women want a man who takes care of themselves and this includes their skin. By looking your best, you build confidence and make yourself more attractive to women. But one thing that men don't realize is that skin care also helps with shaving. When you shave it's important to have healthy skin. By shaving on a clean canvas you will have much nicer results when shaving. But if your skin has bumps, ingrown hairs, acne or other blemishes, these could get in the way of a good shave. Shaving with skin in poor condition could lead to cuts and undesirable results.   Cleanse your Face The first step in any skincare routine is to cleanse your face. This means using a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and dead skin cells that can clog pores and cause acne or bumps. Men should look for a cleanser that is specifically designed for their skin type, whether that's oily, dry, sensitive or combination. This is important because using a cleanser that's not right for your skin type could leave your skin too dry, irritated, or too oily. Combination skin is where skin is naturally oily in the T-zone which is the across forehead and down the nose to the chin but dry on the cheeks. Cleansing your face leaves the skin feeling fresh and clean. If you're rocking a beard and/or mustache, it's important to cleanse facial hair as well. Facial hair can harbor bacteria and dirt so it's important to remove the impurities.   Exfoliate Regularly Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This helps to unclog pores and improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin. Men should exfoliate once or twice a week using a gentle exfoliating scrub or a chemical exfoliant like glycolic acid. But did you know that shaving is type of exfoliation as well? When you shave you are taking off the outer layer of skin. So shaving is a great way to exfoliate. However, it's important to use a very sharp blade. If you use a dull blade or a low-quality blade, this could damage your skin and leave it irritated. And the more blades you have (5 blade cartridges for example) the more irritation this may create. So if possible, the best type of blade is a single blade. Use a safety razor or double edge razor for shaving as this will give you the closest shave and create less irritation to the skin than cartridge blades. It's also recommended to shave with a non-foaming shaving cream as this will allow you to see what you're shaving. You don't want to shave over any bumps or acne. By using a clear shaving cream or gel you can see what you're shaving and give you the ability to shave around any skin imperfections.   Moisturize Moisturizing is an essential step in any skincare routine. It helps to hydrate the skin and prevent dryness, which can lead to premature aging and wrinkles. Men should look for a moisturizer that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which helps to retain moisture in the skin, and vitamin E, which has antioxidant properties. Men should also look for a moisturizer that is non-comedogenic which means the product won't clog or block pores. This helps prevent acne. Many men forget to moisturize or think this step is not that important. But it is very important. When you cleanse the skin to remove the oils, you need to put them back in to prevent over dryness.   Protect your Skin from the Sun Sun damage is one of the leading causes of premature aging and skin cancer. Men should always wear sunscreen when they are going to be outside for extended periods of time, even on cloudy days. Check the UV index on the weather app to know if it's necessary to wear it. Look for a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and apply it generously to all exposed skin. It's important to note that sunscreen generally only lasts for 90 minutes. So it's important to reapply if you plan to be exposed to the sun for hours at a time. It's also a good idea to wear a hat that has full face coverage. Baseball caps don't provide complete coverage, but they can at least cover the forehead and sometimes the eyes. Be sure to reapply as necessary.   Watch your Diet Your diet can have a significant impact on the health of your skin. Eating a diet that is high in processed foods and sugar can lead to inflammation and acne. These kinds of foods have poor nutritional value so they can have a negative effect on the skin. On the other hand, a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats can help to keep your skin looking healthy and radiant. Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants which fight against oxidants which damage the skin and promote disease. Health fats such as omega-3s and monounsaturated fats promote healthy hormones and healthy cell function. Hormones, when not in balance, can lead to skin issues such as acne. In conclusion, taking care of your skin is not just for women. Men need to pay attention to their skin too. A simple skincare routine that includes cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, sun protection, and a healthy diet can go a long way in keeping your skin looking and feeling its best. So, don't be afraid to take care of your skin - it's an investment in your health and wellbeing. Health and Wellness

Become a JATAI Feather Ambassador

by JATAI, 21 Feb 2022
In today's age of social media and self-promotion nothing has been hotter than making money by endorsing products. The boom of the influencer trend has been partly attributed to brands providing incentives for social media influencers to talk about their products. The best part is that this is a win-win situation. The brand gets the word out about their products to reach new people and the influencer gets a reward for it. Whether it's cash or product, the influencer chooses if they want to participate or not. At JATAI we've noticed there are many loyal Feather users out there who love their razor and enjoy showing off their work to their fellow colleagues and friends. For stylists and barbers, showing off their craft and skills is not just about showing the final look. It's about showing their love for the products they use to create the look and the journey they take to achieve it. We know that stylists feel really proud when they can use a Feather Plier Razor to create beautiful looks and barbers feel pretty cool when they do a full face shave with an Artist Club Razor. We want to reward those who love Feather Razors and are willing to do a little bit of work to earn some great incentives. It's also a great way for us to build relationships with our fellow stylists and barbers. (Update: The Ambassador Program is no longer available. But you can still endorse our products and earn commission through our Affiliate Program) If you are an ambassador for other brands, that is a-ok. We know you have other products you use and if it earns you a little more money, there's no harm in that. You decide what campaigns you want to participate in. It's that easy. We know you're a busy hair professional so these campaigns are made to be manageable and you are given ample time to complete them. Activities can be as simple as an Instagram post, story or reel.
