The 90's Heartthrob

My client has had long hair for the past 8 years and was ready for a change. He has never voluntarily had long hair before this cut, so I wanted to create a cut that still had a lot of the appeal of long hair in a short version.

We decided to call this "The 90's Heartthrob" jokingly, but honestly I think it's a good description. My client is not the clean cut type, so I thought a razor cut would be best to give that lived-in look with ease.

I chose to use my Feather Plier Razor with Feather Plier Razor Blades because I love the light touch I can get with this particular handle. I took diagonal back sections along the sides and back, and cut a round graduated shape, leaving enough length to tuck behind the ears, while building length towards the top.

I rounded the corner on top to allow the hair to move in either direction easily. I left enough length on top to frame the face, but still be able to push back easily. I cut with long strokes to create a good amount of texture while simultaneously cutting the shape.

I cleaned up the edges of his neckline with trimmers and styled by diffusing with a light amount of cream to help tame frizz and add moisture to allow his waves to shine. After his hair was dry, I took a light amount of weight out in one spot around the ear by slide cutting (opening and closing the blades while sliding) with my scissors to finish.
