For this glorious disconnected rattail shag look, I essentially treat this as two separate haircuts. For the length, all hair from the occipital bone and below in the back quadrants of the head is cut to one length with shears in order to make it easy to braid into rat tails.

For the shag portion of this cut, I love to utilize the Feather Styling Razor with the Feather Styling Razor Standard Blades to build movement, volume and piecey layers on otherwise very straight hair. After cutting a standard shag shape, I also go back through in vertical subsections and remove weight internally to help maintain the shag shape as this grows out.

I love using the Feather Styling Razor to carve out petals along the face framing layers, and will also take horizontal sections on thick hair in the crown area to carve out some shorter pieces in addition to the layers to really show off texture and create even more messiness.

We finished this look with some salt spray, a light cream, and diffused.
