Heavily Textured Burst Fade

This cut is a burst fade with an unimaginable amount of texture. Without that texture, my client would have flat straight hair – that’s not fun! Since my client’s hair is naturally flat and straight, I reached for my Feather Texturizing Styling Razor and went in with scalloping and slicing motions. The goal was to carve separation and movement so the top wouldn’t collapse. I made sure to leave about three inches through the crown and front to make sure there was enough length to work with.

For the fade, I established my guide at a mid-zero, curving it around the ear to set the burst. I cleared bulk quickly with a #3 guard, then used a skip-guarding technique to build contrast, jumping guard sizes to keep the transition punchy instead of soft. After that, I came back with my electric shaver just at the zero line to touch it closer to skin, giving the fade a sharper pop. Lastly I did clipper-over-comb to polish the shape. Styling makes the texture come alive here. I worked a surf tonic into damp hair to give it grit and lift before blow-drying, then finished with a wax powder for flexible hold and definition.
