Versatile Razor Bob

My client, Rory, wanted a cut that would look and feel intentional while growing out—and something versatile enough to wear multiple ways. I used both my shears and my Feather Styling Razor to balance structure with texture, creating a bob that works styled sleek or tousled.

I started by using my shears to establish the overall length of the bob. From there, I incorporated my Feather Styling Razor to carve in a subtle graduation at the back, remove excess weight, and create texture where needed. For the bangs, I used the razor to add a “chewy” texture that feels soft but defined.

Maintaining balance was key so the cut could shift seamlessly between looks. By keeping the base technically sound with shears, the bob has a clean shape that wears beautifully styled sleek. Then, by layering through the top with a combination of razor carving and shear slide cutting, I added movement and versatility. Those layers give the option for 1990s-inspired tousled texture, while the foundation supports a 1920s-inspired sleek finish.

Since Rory is growing their hair out, I also made sure the cut would feel intentional over time. To avoid the back becoming too heavy or droopy, I built in just enough graduation—nothing overly stacked—while lightening bulk and adding playful layers up top. This way, the haircut grows gracefully, feeling effortless at every stage.

For styling, I used a primer to prep the hair for both sleekness and hold, then a styling to add volume, grip, and texture for the tousled version.
