The story behind Seki Edge dates back to the 13th century in Seki City, a small city in the central mountains of Japan. Due to its rich natural resources, abundant materials, blade soil, and good quality water, a master swordsmith named Motoshige chose Seki as the ideal place to produce samurai swords for the region. Today, Seki is world-famous for manufacturing the finest cutlery, knives, razors and grooming tools. The Seki Edge collection from Green Bell has long since evolved, merging modern technology with traditional hand craftsmanship capabilities to produce the pivotal point of difference compared to other brands in the beauty grooming marketplace.

It’s the spirit of Samurai ‘Bushido’ persisting for over 780 years that has allowed for Seki in Gifu Prefecture, Japan to become known as the capital of high-quality metallurgy cutlery the world over. In the feudal days, a Samurai’s sword was their soul. From rituals to the belief that their swords had divine powers, they were treated with undue respect. Swordsmiths took advantage of Seki’s abundant charcoal, rich deposits of iron sand and all the essential ingredients necessary for making high quality swords. Today, descendants of Samurai swordsmiths have taken generations of technique and tradition and merged them with modern technology to create Seki Edge tools.
Green Bell, the manufacturer of the Seki Edge line, began with humble beginnings. Mr. Kiyoshi Ishida, a man whose ancestors were blacksmiths, excelled at sales. For a period of time Mr. Ishida worked for his brother’s ironmonger shop as a salesman, but when it went bankrupt, his customers and subcontractors urged him to continue the business. In 1968, Mr. Ishida founded Green Bell. His vision was to make quality beauty and grooming tools and cutlery. Amidst the poor-quality tools that were present in the market, Green Bell’s products stood out as winners and the Seki Edge line has become an international hit. Today, his son, Itsuto, continues his legacy as the current president.
