Curly Pixie Cut Thick Hair Demonstration by Sergey Zaroslav

Learn how to do a curly pixie cut thick hair look using a razor. In this video taken from the internet, Sergey Zaroslav, uses a Feather Styling Razor and Feather Plier Razor which enhances her natural curls and gives more airiness and movement to the hair. As you can tell the client’s hair type is thick and heavy. So removing weight is essential. This short pixie works well with her face shape and hair color. The end result is a low maintenance, feathered pixie style.

Sergey mentions that he usually does vertical sections when doing pixie haircuts. But in this video he uses horizontal sections which gives good visual control and increases his work rate. He starts with horizontal sections in the parietal area and removes weight with deep vertical cuts using a Feather Styling Razor and then removes length by doing a side cut. He repeats this technique with every horizontal section with an elevation of 45 degrees. He continues on the sides and uses the length behind the ear as a guide.

In the front, he makes a square cut and angles the razor for deep vertical cuts to add more texture. For the bangs he over directs the side strands to the middle to give a V shape. The top is the longest part of the haircut. He makes deep cuts toward the face to give the hair a forward movement and then cuts from underneath to connect the sides and back to the top using a Feather Plier Razor. Finally, he diffuses and does final details on dry hair with a Feather Styling Razor and scissors.

Pixie cuts can come in various forms. From pixie bobs, choppy layers, shaved sides, longer pixie, and layered pixie styles, this short hair look is fun and cute. Using a razor for short haircuts can work with thick coarse hair or fine hair. A thick hair pixie can look good as a choppy pixie. But with fine hair it’s important to not take off too much hair. Often times blonde pixie hairstyles have fine hair so it’s best to use the Texturizing Blade if using a Feather Razor as this blade with take of 25% less hair than the Standard Blade but still give the desired texture.

Note: The Feather Styling Razor used in the video is a discontinued model. The current handle uses the same blades.
