To create layers you can use several different tools. The tool you use determines the outcome of the look. In this video, Alan Papaleo, hairdresser and educator for over 30 years, demonstrates how creating layers with Switch Blade Shears vs. a Feather Razor can lead to 2 totally different looks! As he demonstrates this effect on a mannequin head, you can see how using shears to create layers leads to a much stronger more controlled look while using a Feather Razor to create layers leads to a lot more texture in the hair which is looser and more carefree.
