The shag is one of the most popular haircuts for women these days. Celebrity icons such as Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have all rocked the shag. It consists of lots of choppy layers and some sort of fringe. In this tutorial Sergey cuts a shorter length shag, removes a lot of weight and gives the client’s hair more life and volume. The razor shag gives the shag a softer look. But it can also make the shag look more rock and roll.
He starts with shaping the hair with his hands to determine how he is going to do this razor cut. The hair is initially static and flat and wants to open up the face and give movement to the hair.
He starts with the front by dividing the hair into 2 diagonal separations parallel to the front hairline. He begins with the curtain bangs which will be the shortest part of the haircut. He separates the triangular sections from the middle part and over directs the hair to the opposite side to get a soft V-shape. For this haircut, he uses a Feather Plier Razor, a bare blade razor for this razor shag look.
He continues this process with the side parts of the bangs and checks the balance. On the sides, he over directs the side strands to the front to get a soft diagonal line. He makes a diagonal like connecting with the shortest part of the bangs with the ear level hair on the sides.
He then moves to the top zone and separates the middle strands. He makes a square cutting angle and use the longest length of the fringe as a guide. Next, he divides the middle strand into two equal parts and uses it as a guide for the next step. He takes sections perpendicular to the central parting line and makes an exterior cutting angle.
In the back part of the top zone, he takes radial separations and move around the clients head. After checking the balance and seams of the angles on both sides, he then personalizes the haircut with scissor detailing on dry hair and then finishes it off with some product.
