Before social media, influential people like the Beatles were the inspiration for hairstyles, but today TikTok influencers like Josh Richards set the trends. And the trending haircut for teenage boys is the curly mop top haircut. You really can’t go anywhere these days without seeing a boy with this type of style. This top hairstyle is characterized by longer hair that’s low maintenance but with a textured appearance, also known as a wet mop haircut. In this article we will go through the steps to creating this style using a Feather Plier Razor. You can follow along and view the full tutorial here on this page.
Russell Mayes, the Director Content for JATAI, is an excellent educator who explains step-by step how to give this popular haircut in this video post. Russell will guide you through the step-by-step process of creating a stylish and modern curly mop haircut using the industry standard bare blade razor…the Feather Plier Razor. The razor is used in a way that creates soft, textured razor curls that separate and add depth and dimension to your client’s hair with this versatile tool. With this haircut it’s important to create graduation to keep the shape full without getting a round shape. The shape is extremely versatile and works on straighter hair textures as well. Mop haircuts are often asked for in the shop or salon so it’s important that you know how to give this service especially if you give short haircuts or cut men’s hair. If the client doesn’t already havee curly or wavy hair, you may need to do a perm service as well.
Note: The Feather Plier Razor is an advanced haircutting razor that should be used with caution. Since the handle uses bare blades you can easily cut yourself if you’re not careful. Be sure to practice and get adequate training before attempting to use it on a real client. To see the Feather Plier Razor, click here.
You can also, use a Feather Styling Razor which uses guarded blades to achieve similar results. Since the blades have a guard, they will not cut you. The Feather Styling Razor can use three different blades (Standard, R-Type and Texturizing) based on your needs. All Styling Razor Blades have a guard. For the blade that will be most like the Plier Blade (most blade exposure) use the R-Type Blades for the most haircutting freedom. You can check out the Feather Styling Razor here.
